The Red Cross of the Republic of Korea has donated clothes worth more than US$2 million (over 20 billion kip) to the Lao Red Cross.
The shipment of clothing, delivered in September and October, will be distributed among the poorest families in remote and rural areas of Laos.
It comprises 26 containers holding 14,173 boxes of clothing valued at a total of US$2,758,363.
The Lao Red Cross will distribute the clothing to needy households.
The Red Cross of the Republic of Korea has also provided Covid-19 protective equipment to the Lao Red Cross. The assistance is provided through cooperation between the two Red Cross branches and serves to strengthen the relationship between the two bodies.
Recognising the importance of the Red Cross, the Republic of Korea sourced the clothing and sent it to the Lao Red Cross on behalf of the humanitarian organisation for donation to families in Laos.
Over the past six months, the Lao Red Cross has provided emergency assistance worth 757 million kip to over 9,000 families in 31 districts where floods and fires occurred.
Natural disasters occurred in 10 provinces and Vientiane, with floods affecting large swathes of Xayaboury, Bokeo and Champassak and a fire taking place in the capital.
These events affected the lives and property of people in 407 villages of 68 districts, involving 20,483 families of 108,574 people.
The Lao Red Cross provided emergency assistance on 18 occasions, providing help to 165 villages in 31 districts. A total of 9,936 families comprising 60,623 people benefitted from this assistance, which was valued at 757,249,000 kip.
